Recorded in the depths of winter at Humm studios in the bands home city, the EP sees the band nail down their sound, an eclectic mix ranging from the gritty, driving riffs of Division Below and 9 Lives to the soaring melodies and twinkling textures of No Subs and Comeback.
Previously an entirely instrumental band, the EP also features vocals from Yuka Suzuki in her Japanese mother tongue on 3rd track 9 Lives, a tribute to the bands unofficial mascot/cover star/feline deity Louie.
The band have taken the long way round to it's first release. Formed in 2020 by friends and 5 a side teammates Will Sandercock (guitar), Ayumu Suzuki (synths) and Andy Came (drums), the band managed one practice before lockdown threatened to end things almost as soon as they had begun. However, armed with an idea that was to develop into crowd favourite No Subs, the band regrouped in summer 2021, adding Harry Winter (bass) to fill out their sound and complete the bands lineup.
Playing their first show at Bristol institution the Louisiana in March 2022, the band kept writing and developing their sound until they hit on something that felt right. Four days of fun recording with producer Dom Mitchison resulted in an EP that was in tune with the Neko live sound.
Mixing and mastering complete, Neko reached out to Brighton based label Shore Dive records, whose reputation for unique and interesting records felt like a natural fit for the EPs CD release. A kind offer from Hand Drawn Hand Records to release the EP in tape format was also taken up, resulting in a debut release that the band are proud of.
