Skeleton Hand are an improvising trio who first emerged from the series of Cobra Sessions hosted at Churchill College, Cambridge during 2016-2017. With their own take on the ‘power trio’ line-up of drums, cello and electric guitar, and operating under the basic remit of “…always a trio, always improvised…”, their performances combine restless jazz-punk, untutored No Wave skronk and a shape-shifting mode of free music that frequently
appears to be attempting several idioms at once. The two self-titled albums, released simultaneously on cassette by Hand Drawn Hand, present material selected from recordings made during a single 3-hour studio session. Ranging from brief intimate miniatures and hard-driving blow-outs to expansive longer-form explorations, these tracks capture the spontaneous and perpetually-evolving shifts in mood and dynamic that occur in a purely improvised setting, moving the listener through partially-formed themes that draw on ragged rock’n’roll, scratchy post-punk, lounge jazz, film noir, krautrock, musique concrete and industrial
electronics.
